Rain Rain go away ~ ~ ~

It has been raining and cold and just plain miserable the last few days. Yesterday I spent a chilly afternoon out at my potting table pricking out some seedlings and potting in larger pots. These were my Morning Glories and some Cornflowers so hopefully they will do well. I have some other seeds beginning to sprout.

The Flowers for Emily & Andrew's wedding

Eight vases for the tables

Susan & I spent all day the Friday before the wedding buying and arranging the flowers for Emily & Andrew's wedding. We made four buttonholes, Three little posies for the mothers and grandmother.
My kitchen was full of flowers!
We made two of these.

Four inches of rain this week end!

Lots of rain and stormy weather this weekend, but when the sun came out the dogwoods are in full blossom and are looking beautiful, all except for mine and they have no flowers on at all? The Red Buds are popping out of the woods as you drive down the highway and there are lots of beautiful pale purple Wisteria vines on the edge of the woods too *~*
I used to have that growing up the side of our house but it reached the roof and started to pull the porch railing down, so sadly I was told by my dear husband that it had to go :-(

Poison Ivy!

Well I tidied up my mint patch this week and forgot there was Poison Ivy mixed in there! Low & behold my forearms have been covered in that horrible blistery itchy rash for the last 5 days ! I am not a happy camper! The pollen is very high so my allergies have started too! Actually it is a little chilly & rather windy so I'm reluctantly taking a day off from the garden. Lunch out with friends and now I'm knitting darling booties for my 8th grand baby due in August ~ oh happy days to come! The beautiful dogwood blossoms are now out but mine have no flowers I have no idea why? I planted petunias this week too. The sun is shining & my morning glory & cornflower seedlings are beginning to appear, very exciting

glorious day today!

After yet another apt with the Oral Surgeon I ran over to the garden center to resupply my beloved garden! Mission accomplished I was home & in my gardening garb & set to my task, before I knew it was 6 pm. it was such a beautiful day! I planted my hanging baskets & even some tomatoes, Heirloom variety, (maybe a little early but I live dangerously). I can not wait for my Gazpacho!

lopping trees!

I have been in my garden all day lopping trees in the sunshine! Everything grows so quickly here in Georgia. If one is not carefull the garden turns into a jungle in no time at all. What a glorious day! I am loosing my voice so it's good to be alone in my little piece of heaven. My first Tulip bloomed today and the Hyacinths are looking very pretty.

The Chattahochee

I saw the first wild violet in the woods on Saturday, such a welcome site! the bamboo forest is green, some of the trees are leafing. I only saw 3 deer on our hike but is was very peaceful walking along the river & up through the woods. Too tired for gardening when we got home.

Seeds & new Forsythia plants

Today I planted the Forsythia I had cut & brought indoors for flowers over the winter, it has rooted, so now I shall have 4 more bright yellow bushes next spring. I planted the seeds I had collected over the fall last year in a seed tray, time will tell if I'm successful. My Curly Red Willow is looking majestic covered in little green leaves, to think I brought that home from the S.E. Flower show about 3 yrs ago as a twig!

Big Creek has flooded it's banks!

Not much garden therapy today, we had 2" rain last night, the Sophia River is back in my garden! However driving out today I see Magnolia, Cherry, Bradford Pear, Camellia & Forsythia all in full bloom so that makes us happy *~* The wind was howling all night & tonight there will be a frost so I shall cover the Hydrangeas since they are budding & I so enjoy their blooms in June.

Trimming the Holly

Well I have just been up a ladder with walking stick to pull the branches towards me & managed to trim some of the tall branches back. these are my lolly pop tree Savannah Holly's & they are way to tall. David wants to chop them down but I do like them for the privacy they give me on my front porch! Yesterday I collected a lot of the dead wood that had blown off the trees in last weeks big storm, lots of lovely kindling for my fire which we still need in the chilly evenings, well a little chilly I just love my fire. it is raining so I won't be out there much today.Something is nibbling at my day-lily shoots I wander who that is?? yesterday I picked 2 huge bunches of Forsythia for the house. my White Camellia's are beautiful this year so I picked a few of those too they look so lovely with just one in each little bud vase *~* such joy when you can pick flowers from the garden !

Spring has sprung!

I have just returned to Atlanta from snowy Wisconsin what fun but what a lot of snow. I was so happy to see a mound of miniature daffodils when I stepped out of my car in Alpharetta, oh joy. I took a walk around my house just to see what had popped up in 5 days. other daffodils & Narcissus, buds of hyacinth too. my curly red willow has leaves budding. pink blossom trees & white I think cherry are blooming too. the pansies I planted last week look very happy & are smiling! except for the ones in front of my porch, rabbits or deer have enjoyed them :-( The climbing roses have leafed. the sun is shining today after a horrible storm last night when the sirens blared so loudly, but all is well. peace on the front porch with my cup of tea listening to the happy songs of birds *~*
